i'm filling out an employee self-evaluation right now. i have my evaluation with my boss tomorrow afternoon, and she asked me to fill out what i thought was appropriate grading for my job performance thus far.
so, i'm filling out the 'Strengths in Position' part and i really wanted to write something from Heroes. because, the sentence i started writing was, "the ability to connect with residents on a personal level." but what i really wanted to write was, "the ability to bend space and time." or, "the ability to mind read and control others thoughts." or, "shapeshifting ability."
areas needing improvement?
"control my fire-starting power."
"resist the urge to erase someone's mind."
i was kind of laughing thinking about writing it and then trying to explain to my boss why i wrote that. but, i didn't write it on the sheet. so, i thought i'd write it here.
something that i seriously thought about writing for 'strengths in position?'
"french braiding."
"excellent knowlege of sleepover activities."

BLOG READER APPRECIATION WEEK 2009
ok friends, i've been thinking about this. i had a hard time sleeping last night because i was so excited about the idea. for serious.
SO. the blog reader appreciation week 2009 will start TOMORROW.
that's, WEDNESDAY. 22 JULY 2009.
and there will be PRIZES!!!!! i have it all semi-figured out. what i'm thinking right now is that the first person to comment on the entry of the day, will win the prize. and let's say, i will have an entry posted by 5pm eastern standard time. or, does later work better? you guys let me know asap.
i'm really excited for this. i hope it all works. i think the appreciation week will run from WEDNESDAY through SUNDAY. a five day thing, like a five day week.
and, if you win a prize, we will somehow get in contact not via commenting and you can send me your address and i will send your prize!!! omg this is going to be so much fun!
and if you're reading this, and i don't know who you are, you are still eligible for a prize!! if you read my blog semi-regularly, you are in the running. please, don't be shy. (although, i do love strangers.)
OK. so, this was kind of just a heads up entry for the awesome stuff that is about to happen.
alright, i'm going to make a decision:
::: PRIZES AWARDED TO FIRST COMMENTER ON THE 'BLOG READER APPRECIATION WEEK ENTRY' OF THE DAY***
::: ENTRY WILL BE POSTED BY 9PM EST.
::: PRIZES TO BE MAILED OUT SOMETIME NEXT WEEK (probably)
sound good? everyone agree? are you excited?? oh, i'm so excited. i can't wait. i wish i knew everyone who read the blog. we should have a blog social! i would like to meet everyone. hm, i wonder how that could work....
i love planning online events. they're the best! uncommonly funtimes.
ok! you're the best too!!!!! i'm so excited for you all.
oh,
***the 'blog reader appreciation entry' of the day will be titled, 'BLOG READER APPRECIATION ENTRY' or something along those lines, so you know it's the appreciation entry. because, i'll probably still want to blog during the appreciation week like normal. ya know? and we don't want to get confused between the two entries. the appreciation entries will be like going to a party. i promise.***
OK!!!!! i have to get into party planning mode.
love you, friends!!!! it's rainy here, but i'm still loving it.

"we could like, text"
i just finished watching Two Lovers. the one with Joaquin and Gwyneth. i really liked it. it was sad. but, realistic seeming. the dialogue rocked. it was a sweet and simple film. nicely done, filmmakers and actors. really pretty music, too. especially on the DVD menu. i'm listening to it right now. and a creepy heartbeat/ocean sound during the end of the credits. you should see it.
i also watched Bottle Shock last night. is that one word? Bottleshock. or, BottleShock? i don't know. well, i watched like, half of it and then got too tired. that's the one with Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman about the wine makers in California during the 70's. 1978, i think. Chris Pine was also in it, which i didn't know he'd be until the movie started. what a pleasant surprise. and, he played Bill Pullman's son. and, since i knew Bill Pullman's daughter when we went to the same college, basically it's like i know Chris Pine. so, i was happy about that.
i've been thinking about my friend Dan from college lately. i think i might send him a message. we wrote for The Climax together.
so, lettuce was on sale at the grocery store for $.99! i was super, super happy about this. except, it was the kind of lettuce that is not in bags. not like, the prepared salad mix. but, like, a head of lettuce. and i usually buy it in a bag. but, they didn't have any tonight. and i don't like thinking about all the people who might have touched the lettuce before me. and it was all kind of wilty and sad looking.
i guess now that i think about it, it wasn't a very good lettuce purchasing experience. except for the $.99 part. ah well. it tasted good tonight. and i washed it thoroughly.
i think 'thoroughly' is one of the hardest words to spell. i always have to think hard about it. am i the only one? it's kind of a tricky word. it's like 'through' with a little something extra.
tomorrow we don't have staff meeting. it's being moved to every other week now, because there's nothing to talk about, really. but, i have to take one of the girls to a doctor's appointment. we need to be there by 2:45. that should be good.
last night, me and the two residents were hanging out a little bit. it was really nice. especially since one of them is leaving next week. i'm really going to miss her. we were downstairs and once the other resident had gone up, she asked me,
RESIDENT: Julie?
JULIE: Yeah?
RESIDENT: Would you mind staying down here with me until my water boils?
JULIE: Of course not.
she was making Ramen. i thought that was sweet.
i decided tonight while on my way home from the grocery store that i would like to have a bridge named after me. it doesn't have to be a big bridge. it doesn't have to be in a big city or anything. just a normal bridge. that assists people in their crossing of bodies of water. i guess that's my only requirement. it has to be over a body of water. not like, train tracks or anything. those bridges aren't as pretty. (unless someone is reading this who has a bridge named after them that goes across train tracks. i'm sure your bridge is lovely.)
i wonder how you get someone to name a bridge after you? do you have to donate money to the building of the bridge? if anyone has any info, or would like to name a bridge after me, please get in touch. make me an offer!
the julie bridge
or
julie's bridge
sounds good to me.
OMG GUESS WHAT I DID TONIGHT?!??!?!?! i figured out how to upload MUSIC and PICTURES to my PHONE!! my mobile phone. and i could transfer the pictures i've taken to my computer. it took me maybe, half an hour yesterday and maybe an hour today to figure out how. but i did it. now my phone can play music. that's so weird. who needs that? i don't need that. but, now i have it.
so, i would like to showcase some photos for you that i have taken with my phone. the only pictures that i really take are of Ruby Tuesday. but, she's pretty darn cute. so, i think you will like them.

this is in my kitchen. that's my new kitchen table. isn't she sweet? she likes to sit there and look out the window. that's the yellow house next door where i thought there was a ghost family living. but then i found out that's it's a sweet retired doctor and his second wife. they have a really nice porch.

this is one of Ruby Tuesday's favorite places to sleep during the day. it's a giant rock that Aliya made!!!!! it's the perfect kitty size. she loves it.

sleeping on the green chair i got from my dad. as you can see, she never stops being cute.

on the green chair again. she looks HUGE in this picture. oh, and what's that hott totebag in the background? oh, it's just my Coconut Records bag which i use all the time. again, it's my favorite totebag. not like those other lame totes that are ugly and unreliable. i'm kidding, i have the best totebags. maybe i'll take a picture of them for you sometime.

she was looking for a bug, obvi. at first i was worried for her that she was up so high, but she just wasn't listening to me. so, i took pictures instead. i made that 'Let the Sun Shine' picture from a t-shirt that Maria got me. i love it. and those are Aliya's twinkle lights.

this is Ruby Tuesday's new futon. she loves it. she sleeps there during the day when she's not sleeping on the rock. this is in my front room. and the futon is covered with animals that Aliya also made. she loves them!

this is a window connecting my bathroom and kitchen. it's because the only heater in the apartment is in the kitchen. so, there's a window right above it that leads to the bathroom, and then there are other holes in the top of the bathroom ceiling so the heat can travel back to my bedroom. it's quite a complicated process. and i had been wondering how long it would be until Ruby noticed it. this was taken just the other night. i had to help her get down.

sleepy on the kitchen floor.

this was when i realized i could let Kara know where i was in Heroes by sending her pictures of the episodes!!!! i was pretty surprised at how good the quality was. this is Nathan. i like him a lot. i think he's in Mexico in this episode. that was kind of weird. this guy is married to the lead singer of The Dixie Chicks in real life.

by the second picture, Kara was mad. this is Sylar and the bald guy in a car together. they tried to kill each other soooo many times. but in the end, they were just dudebros. i think this was one of the many times during the show where i shouted, "MAKE OUT!!" at the computer.
(ps: what a hottie!)

i laughed so hard when i walked into the tiny room and saw her sleeping like this. she just looks so funny.

and she just loves that rock.

this was taken this afternoon. again, note the Coconut Records bag in the background.
and there you have it! those are some pretty good quality photos taken from a phone, eh? i guess they pretty much look like normal pictures. i promise i took them with my phone.
holy crap it's 4am!!! yikes. i guess i have to try and go to sleep since i have to wake up early tomorrow. well. maybe by like, noontime. i also have to go to the bank and try and get my Euro switched to Dollar. finally. i've only been back in the states for over a month now. geeze. i'm hoping the bank in town can do it. i have $45 euro to change over. that is an unnecessary dollar sign there. but, i'm not going to delete it.
hey, anyone seen The Great Buck Howard? i think it looks pretty funny. i think it might be a movie that i watch with Buck. he might enjoy it purely because it has his name in the title.
ugh i have to fill out my timesheet tonight. aw man i totes forgot about that until right now. i guess i should have been doing that instead of updating again. oh well. i don't regret it, do you? you shouldn't because there are cute pictures of Ruby Tuesday and Sylar in here and you wouldn't have seen them if i was filling out my timesheet instead.
ok, friends. hey, ya know what? i just want you all to know that i really appreciate you reading this. whether you're my best friend, or i've never met you. thank you.
i should have a Misty Green and Blue Reader Appreciation Week. !!!!!!!!!! what a great idea!!!!! i will start planning. maybe next week? it has to be a week that YOU ALL are free and will be able to check the blog at least once a day so i can appreciate you.
OH WAIT! next week isn't good for me. it's Kara's Birthday Celebration Week 2009. maybe i'll do like, wednesday to wednesday? starting this wednesday!!??!!? that's tomorrow!!!! can everyone be here?? and then it will END on Kara's birthday. and it will be a double celebration.
every other job has an "appreciation week," why shouldn't blog reading? i mean, if you check the blog at least once a day, that's like going to work. except for funner, duh!
ok - i'm so excited!!!!!!!!! i have to plan a special thing every day for you all.
GET EXCITED, READERS. it's all about you.

(yes, you.)
20 July 2009
lazy monday
i just had two cups of coffee and killed a disc of Entourage. it's the life.
i slept in pretty late. i won't tell you just how late. but, it was late. in total i got about 13.5 hours of sleep. now, i know that sounds like a lot. but, i only got 3 hours of sleep the previous night. so really, it was justified.
and last night i was awoken with a phone call, the house alarm going off, my alarm going off (turned it off and went back to sleep), and Ruby Tuesday licking my face because she wanted me to feed her. i did get up and feed her because i knew if she kept licking my face then i would get hives. so, i got up and fed her, and then somehow found my way back to bed and fell right back to sleep.
13.5 hours is not the most i've ever slept. that would probably be my second year of college when i slept straight through for 15 hours.
but, i was remembering the time that i went to bed at 5:30am, woke up at 5:30pm, and couldn't figure out whether or not it had been 12 hours or 12 seconds. that was a freaky experience. it took me like, half an hour to realize that it was 12 hours later. everything was exactly the same as when i had gone to bed. the sky looked the same. there was nobody around. it was a weird time.
anyways.
i came home from work yesterday and watched Shopgirl. my friend Jenn had been facebook statusing about watching Shopgirl and then i decided that i hadn't seen it in a long time. so, i went to my DVD collection and pulled it out. and made a sandwich and watched it. man, i really enjoyed it. i enjoyed it much more than i anticipated.
which brings me to my next topic,
'why isn't jason schwartzman in every movie?'
let's discuss. he really should be. and i can't think of any reason why he isn't in every movie. he's so enjoyable to watch on screen. he has a pleasant voice. he's funny. he's a hottie.
when i become president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, i just might make a new entertainment law stating that he must be involved with the making of every movie. he could do the music! because he's such an awesome musician!
OH! i must tell you this exciting thing. after years and years of wanting and wishing, i am FINALLY able to have West Coast as my ringtone!!!!!! on my new way-cool phone!! i wasn't able to put custom ringtones on my old phone anymore because that option was discontinued due to the age of the phone. and, the phone did not have internet access, therefore i could not go online and download it.
and once i figured out how to make my own ringtones, West Coast was the first one i made. only three people have called me since, but i'm still excited about it.
i guess i'll take this moment to promote Coconut Records. Coconut Records is Jason's solo band, which totally rocks. i bought his first CD "nighttiming" immediately after finding out about this band. it was an exciting night. i remember it very clearly. i was at home in maine, sitting at the kitchen table with my laptop. man, those downloads couldn't have been going slower. i was so freaking exciting.
and what a great CD! really awesome. i think one of the songs is on a commercial. 'Summer Day', i think. and, 'West Coast' is featured in the movie Cloverfield. now, i didn't rent the movie just to hear the song (i've done this before), but you should. it's a good movie. better than i thought. and it was hyped up by Maria a lot. so, i had pretty high expectations. i thought it was good. and, West Coast is in it, which automatically made me like it even if i didn't really like it. it's the song playing at the party in the beginning when everything is still good. notice it.
Coconut Records' second CD, Davy was released this past winter. again, a very exciting day once i was finally able to buy it. it took longer because cash has been tight this year. i don't think i actually bought it until april. WOW. if i thought the first cd was good, all expectations were blown out of the water for Davy. it is stellar. i love every song. definitely a stronger album. i really like, 'St. Jerome' and 'Drummer.' and, 'Microphone,' of course. the music video for Microphone is pretty hilarious.
wow, you all should really go out and buy 'Davy.' for realz. such a great CD.
now let's talk about Funny People. i think it comes out on friday. hm. now, we all know that i'm not a fan of Judd Apatow. but, i am a fan of Jason. i think i've seen all his movies. have i? i think i have. it's a gamble on this one. Apatow v. Schwartzman.
OH! let's get back to Jason and his musical career. YOU MUST hear the songs he's collabed with Ben Lee on!!!!! oh, they are wonderful. now, i'm going out on a limb here, but i believe it's 'Close I've Come' and 'Light' from Ben Lee's album 'Awake is the new Sleep.' anyone know if this is right? i feel like i knew it at one point. Jason, are you reading this!?? is that right?
*off topic, but kind of not really* one of the best concerts i've ever seen was Ben Lee and Rooney in boston. for serious. whenever i think about my concert going times, i always think about that concert and how fierce Rooney was.

i also think about Ben Lee wearing that gold sparkly jacket.

and how Robert Schwartzman sang right to my heart. bunch of hotties. i just started following Rooney on Twitter and you should too. i think Coconut Records was my first "follow." folks, i'm a devoted fan and promoter!
somebody should really talk to me about representation. i could turn anyone famous with this blog. except myself....apparently. hm.
and one of the best birthday gifts i've ever received was my Coconut Records totebag i got from Kara. and, it's the best totebag i've ever had. if anyone out there is thinking of buying a Coconut Records bag, do it. a great investment for the future. i use it for groceries, i use it for a purse, i use it for my laptop, for the safe transportation of anything, really.
i wish i could keep talking about Coconut Records. i will later. but right now, i have to get to the grocery store before it closes and before i have to start working. i need lettuce and it cannot wait. i'm sure you understand.
we'll talk later. i had fun writing this. hope you enjoyed reading and listening and looking. you should really click on those links. i think you'll like Jason's music. it's hip and fresh and summery.
and! it really all comes full circle, because i began this entry talking about Entourage, which we all know is produced by Mark Wahlberg. and, he was in I Heart Huckabees with Jason. that's a great movie.
i love when things come full circle.
what a great day!!
<3

when i become president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, i just might make a new entertainment law stating that he must be involved with the making of every movie. he could do the music! because he's such an awesome musician!
OH! i must tell you this exciting thing. after years and years of wanting and wishing, i am FINALLY able to have West Coast as my ringtone!!!!!! on my new way-cool phone!! i wasn't able to put custom ringtones on my old phone anymore because that option was discontinued due to the age of the phone. and, the phone did not have internet access, therefore i could not go online and download it.
and once i figured out how to make my own ringtones, West Coast was the first one i made. only three people have called me since, but i'm still excited about it.
i guess i'll take this moment to promote Coconut Records.

19 July 2009
work blog, like i promised!
did i promise a work blog? i think so. anyways, here be it.
there's not much to say, since i was sleeping in between most of the time i haven't been talking to you since the last time.
i had a dream that Star Trek was out on dvd and i watched it with one of my co-workers and her baby. and the opening scene in the movie was actually a scene from Heroes. how lame is that? YEAH, this is what i really think about all the time. even when i can't control my thoughts.
like i said before, you really don't need to slice open my head to figure out what's going on, because i have a blog.
even Mr. Muggles was in the movie. that was weird. when was the last time i had a dream about a dog? probably never.
but! remember how i said i mistakenly left my sunglasses and my eye mask at home? and i was thinking it was some sort of sign??? well, i just read my horoscope and this was the last part of it: it's a good time to clean your windshield. Your vision will shift in a big way in the near future.
weird, right?? it's about vision! and also, my windshield on my car has been super dirty lately and i don't know how it got to be that way. or maybe, my vision is just shifting so i'm finally noticing how dirty it is. uh oh, i hope that's not the new theme of my life. realizing all the dirt in my life. that wouldn't be very fun.
anyways. i thought that was weird and semi-exciting and i couldn't wait to share it with you!
holy crap it's early. not even 9am. why would anyone want to get up this early? it's hott. now that i have air conditioners in my apartment every other non-air conditioned room is like UUUGGGGGHHH. i've become spoiled.
i brought down some movies. and all my beads. maybe we'll have some craft time.
hm. what else can i say? not much, i guess. ok then. i guess i'll get back to doing nothing else.
i'll be here until 4ish. then i have a feeling i will make a sandwich and take a nap. but, maybe in the reverse order.
man, i love sandwiches. and i love naps. who doesn't love a good nap? or a good sandwich? nobody. they are universal. like music and math.
alright. clearly it's too early to try and make sense of myself. have a good day, friends. i'll talk to you later.
<3love

i-am-marvelous
why has it taken me so long to get back to you?!?!?! i can't figure this out, really. because i was thinking about it.
anyways, please accept my apology as well as this youtube video.
LADY GAGA SINGING 'POKERFACE'
trust me, you want to click that link. it's amazing. it's awesome. she has such a great voice!!! she doesn't sound like a computer that happens to sing a catchy dance song. and she can play the piano! nice.
so, i actually can't blog for very long right now because i have to go to bed because i am working 8-4. courtney called saturday night at 11:30 and said she was very sick and couldn't come into work. she didn't sound so good on the phone. so, i told her i would work for her. and there you have it. i now am working 8-4. i will work at the drop of a dime!!! just goes to show that i have no plans ever. or no money. or....friends. hmmm.....one or all three of those should change.
BUT!! in bittersweet news, i have just finished watching the MOST RECENTLY aired episode of Heroes. yes, that means i am all caught up. HA HA HA all those devoted Heroes fans had to wait THREE YEARS for what i just watched in 21 days!!!!!!
MAN, the end of the third season got pretty messed up. like, stuff got weird. there was definitely an element of humor that i really appreciated, though.
i was a little concerned when Sylar ended up on that road trip with the young boy.... but, that turned out alright. well, the way it turned out was that Sylar abandoned him in some random diner.
i think Claire was wearing a wig. THERE, I SAID IT. her hair just DID NOT look real. anyone else? sorry to Hayden Panettiere if she actually wasn't wearing a wig.
i really liked Elle. i'm sorry she had to get her head sliced open. but, at least she got to make out hardcore with sylar before he killed her. the more i heard her talk, the more she sounded like Gossip Girl. xoxo.
MAN, this upcoming tv season is going to be hell to go through. SO MANY different emotions.
OH OH OH!!!! Emmy noms are out!!!! GO GO GO 30 ROCK!!!! soooo happy for them. also happy that Kristin Chenowith was nominated for Pushing Daisies. that's also bittersweet since the show was cancelled. i am gonna miss that show. let's just recap my pathetic life:
- 30 rock
- the office
- grey's anatomy
- private practice
- heroes
- gossip girl
- how i met your mother?
- lost?
basically, once the first season premiere aires, don't bother contacting me. between all these shows and the start of awards season, OH MAN, how will one deal with it all???
AND, i didn't want to tell you this. I'VE BEEN TRYING to keep it in. but, it's been building up and up and up inside and now it's going to come out like word vom.
THE BEST PICTURE NOMINEES FIASCO. that's what it is - a fiasco. i know i already told you i'm NOT HAPPY with the doubling of the nominees from 5-10, but friends, I'M REALLY NOT HAPPY.
i've been reading lots of articles on this. and the one film that everyone keeps referencing??? Star Trek. Star Trek nominated for Best Picture?? for realz? i mean, i've already predicted the Best Visual Effect award, and that's fine! i would gladly give Star Trek the Best Visual Effects oscar. heck, give it sound editing. give it make up. give it best original score (*oo, more on this). but best picture??
in the articles i've read, now that the nominees have doubled from 5 to 10, it seems this is the movie that everyone is saying will have a very good chance of making the cut. now, i really liked this movie. i thought it was awesome. i'd go see it again, sure. i'd buy the soundtrack if i had some extra money. (i seriously would) but to compare it to such films as The Reader? Slumdog? Crash? Brokeback Mountain? Atonement?!?! come on.
and all this is coming the year after everyone semi-mutinied on the Academy for not nominating The Dark Knight. um, i saw The Dark Knight. and it got all the nominations it deserved. that was not a best picture nominee. Heath won Best Supporting Actor because he was the best part of that movie.
i'm worried that the voters will start to look at box office numbers rather than the actual films themselves.
which is why you should ELECT ME TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES!!!!!!! vote for me!!!
and if you don't elect me, then i'll murder the real president, take all his memories, morph into him and then fool you all!!!!! ha ha!! oh wait, that's what happened on heroes. sorry. i won't do that, actually.
BUT! getting back to Star Trek winning the Oscar for Best Original Score!!!! HAS ANYONE ELSE REALIZED WHAT COULD POTENTIALLY HAPPEN?!??!?!?!!?!?!?
it would be comparably beautiful to Kate presenting Leo with his Oscar.
so, the music for Star Trek was composed by Michael Giacchino. he was the conductor for the Academy Awards last year!!!!!! wouldn't that be an amazing moment?? if the conductor of the orchestra won an academy award??? let's hope that happens. i randomly made that connection the other day and smiled to myself for a long time.
yep, that's what goes on inside my head. you don't need to slice open my head because i have a blog.
but, getting back to my original point of how many tv shows i watch........ i might start to watch Lost again. i read an article about the final season today and it made me kind of sad. i read that some major characters will be dying and that the series finale will probably be pretty sad. and then i was like, "oh, well i have to watch it then." so, i have to figure out how to rewatch the last 4 or 5 episodes of this past season. or, they'll probably put them back online once it gets closer to the season premiere. maybe i'll just wait.
WHOA. TV TALK OVERLOAD. who knew i liked tv this much???? and i don't even have to pay for cable. how does that make sense??
i think Comic Con starts this week. i just got an email about it from Entertainment Weekly. and it just happened to come on the same day i watched the episode of Entourage where they go to Comic Con. it was kind of lame because Ari (jeremy piven) said something like, "we're going to san diego!!" and i was like, "are they going to comic con?" and then he said, "we're going to comic con!!!" and i was like, "omg i know something about comic con."
i forgot my eyemask and my sunglasses at my house this past week. isn't that weird?? it should be some sort of sign that i need to open my eyes. or, pay attention to what's going on around me. or something more poetic. and i keep thinking of Adrien Brody in The Darjeeling Limited, how he always wears sunglasses during the day and an eyemask at night. and i really love that about his character.
here are the books i want to read by the end of the summer:
- the year of magical thinking
- the old man and the sea
- extremely loud and incredibly close
- 1000 years of solitude
- l.a. candy (ya know....if i have time.....)
yep. so you all have to keep me on track. L.A. Candy is the one written by Lauren Conrad. of Laguna Beach fame. yeah, she wrote a book. and she got it published. i figure, if i can make it through the first four (especially the gabriel garcia marquez) then i deserve some LC. i also can't believe she wrote a book and got it published. granted the book is about a young girl on a reality show, which is basically her life. so yeah, i bet it wasn't that hard. why doesn't she try writing a book about a cuban revolutionary?? yeah, that's what i thought.
i think the cast of HAIR is going to be on Conan coming up. so, if anyone hears more about this, LET ME KNOW ASAP.
speaking of HAIR. ugh. the first summer where i am not living in southern maine the Prescott Park Arts Festival (in portsmouth, new hampshire) decides to do a production of HAIR: In Concert. and guess who can't go??? oh yeah, ME. why? because the show starts at 8:30pm. i have to be at work by 9:30pm and it's a two hour commute. i actually can't believe how upset and disappointed i am that i can't go to this. and i can't take any more nights off because i just took two nights off and i am taking two more for Kara's birthday at the end of the month.
UGH. i can't believe it. all i wanted to do this summer was to go see Hair on broadway. the new cast!!!! but, that was a little unrealistic. so, then i wanted to buy the new cast recording of Hair, but i don't have any extra money, so that's not happening. and then prescott park does it in concert and i can't even go to that. i'm just like, so bummed out. i really, really want to go. and i would say, "house field trip!" except that it's probably the most innappropriate show for teenage girls and babies. although, i first saw Hair when i was a sophomore in high school. and these girls are older than that. but no, still innappropriate. everything this summer is keeping me from Hair. maybe it's a sign.
AND! next summer Seacoast Rep is doing RENT!!!! yeah, i am taking a night off for that.
oohhhh boy. i have just talked about a lot of Julie things. this has been one of those entries where i just write about stuff that nobody likes to hear me talk about. hey, i have to tell somebody. maybe someone is reading this.
okay. this was supposed to be short because i have to go to bed. which i am going to do now. i have to get up in like, 3.5 hours. which is why i could never have an every day morning job. or a baby. i don't know how people just automatically switch themselves to baby schedule. babies get up early like, every day. and then little kids get up early every day. do small children ever get on their parents schedule?? basically once you become a parent, you can never sleep in again. what's the deal with that? my baby will sleep in. she'll be on my schedule. or he.
i decided i like the name Astra. Astra Belle. or Astra Bay. i like the middle name Bay. although, if i married Michael Bay, then we'd have a daughter named Astra Bay Bay. i guess i can't marry Michael Bay.
the other night Kara and i talked for a long, long time about going on a double date with Shia and Megan. like, what? how did we start talking about that??? and i said that i absolutely would not go on a date with Megan Fox, but i'd go on a date with Shia LaBeouf. and kara said she would go on a date with either Megan or Shia. and then i said that the only way i'd go on a date with Megan would be if Shia was also there. whatever. that was weird, i guess. why were we talking about that?!
anyways. now i'm going to bed. Ruby Tuesday is ready for her second supper. she was ready an hour and a half after she licked her first supper clean. i heard her slamming the cabinet door shut and had to go out in the kitchen and speak to her again. i distracted her with a pink thing and a toy mouse.
so. i'll blog from work, maybe. it's just me and one resident. maybe we'll have another adventure like last week. or, maybe i'll bring my beading stuff downstairs. and some movies.
OK. why can't i stop this????? ok. i'm stopping now. it's like the Return of the King. everyone have a great Sunday. let me know what you've been up to!!!! i miss you guys!

vomditioner
so remember how i was all out of hair conditioner? but, i decided to use body wash? yeah, that totes didn't work at all. my hair was a knotty mess.
but, i still did not want to spend $7.99 on hair conditioner. i could have totally bought a cheaper kind. but, i wanted to be stubborn.
so, i thought to myself, "i'm a creative and crafty person, i'll MAKE my own hair conditioner!!" so, i looked up some recipes. a lot of them called for olive oil, which i don't have. i have sunflower seed oil.
i found some recipes which called for mayo. that just grossed me out.
and then i found one that was mashed up banana mixed with honey. i had both of these things and thought this recipe sounded delish.
so, i mixed some up. while i was mixing i kept thinking, "wow, this looks like vom." but, i kept going.
i took a bath. and kept staring at the banana vom mixture sitting next to me. i shampooed my hair. lovely.
and then the time came for me to condition. i scooped some of the banana vom onto my hair. and then some more. and then some more.
mmmmm ddeelliicciioouuss.
it was slimey and chunky. but smelled great!
so then i washed it out and i had banana vom mixture all over the tub. gross. but, my hair felt pretty good. more conditioned than from the body wash.
so, i wrap my hair in a towel, as normal and continue to get dressed. i take my hair out of the towel and think, "wow julie, you are so great. this banana vomditioner was such a good idea."
and then i looked in the mirror. i had chunks of banana stuck everywhere in my hair.
i sulked, and walked back into the bathroom. and as i inspected further, saw that my hair was literally covered in bananas. tiny chunks of bananas. .U.G.H.
so, i rinsed my hair for about ten more minutes. chunks of banana were seeping out everywhere. it was jack nasty.
then i decided that a little banana never hurt anybody, so i shut off the water and again, wrapped my hair in a towel.
let it dry for a while. then inspected it again. i am still seeing tiny chunks, but not huge ones like before. it smells awesome, though.
so, conditioning my hair with banana probably won't happen again. i guess maybe now i'll go out and buy more.
or, try the mayo and oil mixture.....

but, i still did not want to spend $7.99 on hair conditioner. i could have totally bought a cheaper kind. but, i wanted to be stubborn.
so, i thought to myself, "i'm a creative and crafty person, i'll MAKE my own hair conditioner!!" so, i looked up some recipes. a lot of them called for olive oil, which i don't have. i have sunflower seed oil.
i found some recipes which called for mayo. that just grossed me out.
and then i found one that was mashed up banana mixed with honey. i had both of these things and thought this recipe sounded delish.
so, i mixed some up. while i was mixing i kept thinking, "wow, this looks like vom." but, i kept going.
i took a bath. and kept staring at the banana vom mixture sitting next to me. i shampooed my hair. lovely.
and then the time came for me to condition. i scooped some of the banana vom onto my hair. and then some more. and then some more.
mmmmm ddeelliicciioouuss.
it was slimey and chunky. but smelled great!
so then i washed it out and i had banana vom mixture all over the tub. gross. but, my hair felt pretty good. more conditioned than from the body wash.
so, i wrap my hair in a towel, as normal and continue to get dressed. i take my hair out of the towel and think, "wow julie, you are so great. this banana vomditioner was such a good idea."
and then i looked in the mirror. i had chunks of banana stuck everywhere in my hair.
i sulked, and walked back into the bathroom. and as i inspected further, saw that my hair was literally covered in bananas. tiny chunks of bananas. .U.G.H.
so, i rinsed my hair for about ten more minutes. chunks of banana were seeping out everywhere. it was jack nasty.
then i decided that a little banana never hurt anybody, so i shut off the water and again, wrapped my hair in a towel.
let it dry for a while. then inspected it again. i am still seeing tiny chunks, but not huge ones like before. it smells awesome, though.
so, conditioning my hair with banana probably won't happen again. i guess maybe now i'll go out and buy more.
or, try the mayo and oil mixture.....

Significance of Waffles in Modern Television
Today's television choices are far from ordinary. We see glimpses into the future where people are living in an advanced world, both technologically and genetically. We watch extraordinary drama where people survive and fight against all odds, yet their breakfast food remains the same.
Michael Bluth asks his son George Michael in the premiere episode of Arrested Development, "What do I always say is the most important thing?" George Michael immediately answers, "Breakfast." His father replies, "Family," to which his son answers, "Oh, I thought you meant of the things we eat."
Yet, there is some strange breakfast phenomenon bringing our television families together. For some reason, breakfast is the most important thing, and in the breakfast genre, lies the waffle. This mountainous region of breakfast food reigns supreme. Maple syrup lakes and butter puddles overflowing onto our plates, into our mouths, and, as I will argue, our hearts.
Some of our most recognizable television shows include numerous reoccurring waffle references, as described here:
1. Gossip Girl. In about every episode of this hit CW high school drama, two of our characters, Dan and Jenny Humphrey awake to the smell of waffles in their Brooklyn loft. Sometimes, they even come home from school to the smell of waffles cooking for dinner. It appears their father Rufus does not know how to make any other type of food, and that a waffle iron is the only appliance gracing their kitchen.
2. a.Heroes (early episodes). One of the first episodes in season one, Claire's mother exploded in rage at her because she wouldn't come eat the waffles she had made for breakfast before school. Claire sat on the staircase in her Texas home sobbing, while her father stood before her, demanding she go eat the waffles her mother had spent all morning making.
b.In other early episodes of Heroes, we see Claire's father making her waffles before school. This not only implies that the Bennett family has a passion much like the Humphrey family for waffles, but that also they seem to have an abundance of time in the morning*.
c. Two of our Japanese heroes on this television series marvel at all the American food they find themselves eating on their strange journeys to save the world. In the midst of their fatty, fried food extravaganza, they find themselves enamored by the waffles they eat while at the Burnt Toast Diner. Hiro remarks that his new favorite food is waffles**, to which is father greatly disapproves.
3. Heroes (later episodes). Yes, it's true, even bad guys are weakened by the sight and smell of waffles. We see Sylar, wearing an apron and standing in front of a waffle iron making breakfast for his young son.*** He says to Uncle Peter, who has arrived suddenly, "if I had known you were coming, I would have made more." Which indicates for us a few things:
i. Peter also loves waffles
ii. Sylar is skilled at doubling the waffle batter recipe
iii. His waffle iron is probably a top notch brand to handle such frequent and intense waffle making batches.
And in conclusion we must ask ourselves, "what is our obsession with watching people make and eat waffles??" When did waffles become such an elitist breakfast food? What happened to the simple minded makings of the pancake and the french toast? All are eaten with similar toppings, similar utensils, and with similar passion. Yet, something keeps luring us and our television families to the mystique of the waffle.
Perhaps George Michael was right in saying that breakfast was the most important thing. Clearly, we see evidence that the act of eating breakfast food, more specifically waffles, brings us together as a family, together as a nation, and together as viewers.
* The Bennett family sits happily around their breakfast table enjoying waffles.
**Hiro is not ashamed of his new favorite food, as seen here.
***Here, we see an image of Sylar standing in his kitchen, waffle iron proudly displayed behind him.

09 July 2009
life is a maze and love is a riddle
hi friends!!!!
wow, what a great day i had!!!! i can't wait to tell you about it.
SO. i went to bed at 3:30am. when i finally felt tired. i could not sleep. finally fell asleep at 4am. which, i guess isn't that too long after.
woke up at 7am. hit snooze once. woke up again at 7:10am. got up. put on the coffee. fed kitty. got dressed. made waffles.
had to be downstairs at 7:45am. played with a baby for a little while until he and his mom left at 8am to go home for the weekend.
hung out in the office for a while. ate my waffles. drank my coffee. this was when i updated with my work post.
then, our one resident came downstairs a little after 8:30. she ate some cherries. we chatted in the office. came up with a plan for the day. we would go rent movies and then have an adventure in vermont. but, we had to wait until after Diane arrived to work so that she would be there to answer phones. the morning was super quiet. there were only three phone calls between 8am and 10:30am.
i started my sewing project. i'm making Kara, Maria and myself t-shirts for the harry potter midnight showing next week. YEAH, BE JEALOUS. so, i had to practice sewing lightning bolts. and i brought down an old t-shirt with part of the front cut out to practice on. what happened was, i wanted to save the design of the t-shirt, so i cut out the front. the rest of it was still a t-shirt, though.
so, i got lots of practice lightning bolts done. and they look so effing awesome.
then, Diane came in at around 10:30. i took out some money from the safe. and we were off!
first stop, Hollywood Video. we got two movies.
1. Hocus Pocus
2. Epic Movie
our resident was very excited about these. that's good. then, we talked about our adventure. i asked, "do you want to explore highway vermont, or back road vermont?" she chose back road. so, we drove down route 4.
it's not really a "back road," but it's better and more rural than 91. so, we drove west along route 4.
i asked her if she wanted to stop at The Quechee Gorge. she did! so, i parked the van and we got out, walked along both sides of the bridge, browsed in the Gorge gift shop and had a lovely time. she loved it. it was fun looking in the gift shop with her.
then we were off for more exploring!!! we continued west. this was the route that kara and i explored very in-depth during our Sister Adventure Week 2009. we drove through Woodstock, Vermont, which i just love. i want to stop sometime and browse. and i want to buy that old, falling down house and restore it. and i want to find that disappearing bakery, which i still couldn't find.
we continued to drive west. along the river. through the woods and the mountains. it's really a beautiful drive. we got in some good conversation. rocked out to Avril Lavigne. Sk8r Boi, to be more specific.
after about 30 miles of driving, we turned around and headed back. we were pretty far! we talked about making an ice cream stop and decided on the place near Home Depot in West Lebanon, because that place has the best bubblegum ice cream, our resident says, and that's her favorite. fine with me.
so, we stopped and got ice cream. i had coffee/black raspberry twist with chocolate dip. in a dish. she had bubblegum on a cone. delish! we saw a really cute baby playing with a straw. we also heard people singing 'happy birthday' from the Home Depot parking lot. we both remarked at what a lame birthday that was, going to Home Depot.
then we headed home. were back around 2pm, i think. it was a nice, long day out.
got back and there was a party in the staff office. Diane, Kristin and Sue had all ordered mexican food for lunch and were sitting, lounging, eating, chatting. we joined the party, which lasted for about another hour before everyone got back to work. it was really great. there were lots of laughs. i really love my coworkers. and our resident.
so then, it was time for people to get back to work. so, i got back to my sewing and our resident looked up music videos on YouTube. hard work was happening.
so then, she sees the work i've been doing on the lightning bolt shirt and she says,
RESIDENT: That's a really cute shirt.
JULIE: Really?
RESIDENT: Yeah, I like it.
JULIE: You can have it if you want...
RESIDENT: Really??
JULIE: Yeah!! Sure!!! Do you want anything else on it?
RESIDENT: Umm..like, what?
JULIE: Hmm....I could sew on your name if you want...
RESIDENT: YEAH!
so, i took a pen, wrote her name in a pre-discussed spot on the shirt, and started sewing!
OMG. the shirt came out AWESOME. i am so proud of it. she looooves it. even though there's a huge hole cut out of the front. she wore it with a tank top underneath, but i'm going to sew in a white tank top permenantely so it won't look as weird.
she was so excited about it and that made me feel really excited and really good. now she has her own homemade, personalized shirt!!!! wow!
then Courtney came in at 3:30 for her shift. the three of us lounged in the office for a realllly long time. we discussed doing fun things together and decided that next thursday we would plan a trip to Portsmouth, NH to see Grease at Prescott Park. i hope it doesn't rain because that would be really fun. Courtney was really excited to hear the plan.
and, then Diane came into the office on her way out, and ended up staying for like, an hour. we were all just sitting around, talking. it was great.
i didn't get back upstairs until about 6:15. yikes!!! that's a long day of work. but, it was a really fun day. i'm really glad we went on our vermont adventure. she said on our way home,
RESIDENT: I don't know why everyone always thinks you need to spend money to have fun. I have so much fun just driving around looking at new things.
she's really sweet. i'm taking her to a doctor's appointment tomorrow. or, today. friday. whenever. and me and Courtney are her labor coaches for when she gives birth in October. i'm excited about that.
so! wow! what a good day. today was one of those days when i thought, "wow, what a great job i have!" i thought that last week too, when i was taking two of the girls out to run errands.
it's like, my job is to be a positive part of these girl's lives. and to have fun with them. and today i got free ice cream out of it! what a great deal!
then i came home, made a sandwich, watched an ep of heroes, took a nap. great night. (i'm not going to go on and on, but i'm on season 3 now, which is called "villians" and i can still remember the commercials on tv and they would whisper, "who is a hero....and who is a .....villian.....?" it was pretty dramatic. and so far, the third season is waaaay better than the second. ok! enough!)
now for the exciting stuff!!!!!
SO! many of you probably read my entry Dear Dave and Renee, which i posted earlier today. Dave and Renee are two of my great friends living in Colorado. Dave is older brother to Maria, who is the best friend ever. she's my best friend ever.
SO, to back track a bit, in high school, Dave and his friend Sam had this amazing band called Compost Shark. it was truly awesome. Maria and i even did some collabing on a song called Homeless in Hawaii. we are the ones hysterically, uncontrollably laughing in the background.
and! Dave and Renee have a blog which i just recently learned about. and it's totes cool. and just today they posted an entry about a Compost Shark reunion concert which took place in Colorado this past monday!!! i was very excited to read about it, and even MORE excited to see they had posted a video of one of my favorite Compost Shark songs, Kathleen.
i would very strongly insist that you click on the link and watch the vid. if i had Matt Parkman mind controlling powers, i would mind-control you into clicking on the link. Kathleen is a great song. Compost Shark is a great band. and! Dave commented in this very blog saying that there will be a new Compost Shark CD being released hopefully by the end of the summer!!
Kathleen is a song that i listen to frequently. which then prompts me to listen to Gulden's Mustard. another classic. about a great trip to a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game with Maria, Dave and Sam. good times. i think that was when Sam ate the pepto bismol. and i caught a fly away ball, but then threw it back onto the field. the kid behind me wasn't happy.
anyways!! great times with great friends. enjoy Compost Shark!!!!
and with that, i am leaving you. leave on a high note, i always say. have a great friday!! i have to clean my apartment. something which i have been putting off every other day this week. tomorrow is the last day, so i have to do it.
take care, friends.
with love.

Dear Dave and Renee:
Hi Dave and Renee!!
Two of my favorite Colorado readers!!! For some reason your blog was not letting me post a comment on your newest awesome entry. So, I wanted to tell you that I was so happy to hear 'Kathleen.' I totally love that song and the video was great! So great to see Compost Shark together. Also, I am hoping there is a performance of 'Gulden's Mustard' floating around...... :)
Also! Do I have permission to put a link in to your blog so everyone can hear Kathleen?!?!?
lovelove,
Julie

the prophecy
i just read my horoscope this morning while at work. (it's currently 8:19am....fell asleep at 4am.....up at 7:10am)
my horoscope told me that my dreams are going to be especially prophetic now and that i should immediately start keeping a dream journal. well, i already keep a dream journal, so i have one up on you, horoscope.
but, i'm pretty sure i had a dream about Heroes last night. now, i don't know if that's part of the prophecy too....or if that was just because i had watched Heroes before going to bed.
i guess it could be a little of both.
naturally, it could mean that i have some sort of superpower moribund inside me and i need to revive it. i'm probably gonna go with that one.
SO. working. blah. nothing on the schedule for today. i brought down some sewing that i need to accomplish. i just enjoyed a lovely breakfast that i also brought down with me. waffles. blueberry waffles. and i made a cup of coffee and brought that down with me too. living in the place you work does have some advantages. there is very little transportation required, so you can frequently bring your home to work. or, bring the comforts of home to work.
like, when i come to work in my pajamas at nighttime. or, when i brought Ruby Tuesday down one night. or, this morning when i brought down breakfast and coffee.
i got to play with a baby this morning for a long time!! well, maybe like, 15 minutes. we played with rattles. he drank some yogurt juice. he is such a handsome baby. i told him that. very drooly, though. he's the kind of baby who starts to fuss the minute you stop holding him. he's been like that ever since he was born. it's alright by me though, because i never want to put him down.
tonight i might go out and buy some hair conditioner. i'm debating it.
"but julie, don't you need hair conditioner if you are thinking about buying it?"
yes. yes i do. but, i don't feel like spending $8 on it. and last night i used body wash as conditioner which seemed to work fine.
it's a milk and honey burt's bees body wash. and i use burt's bees hair conditioner. if it had been any other brand and any other scent (like.....exotic tahitian mango....or something) then, i probably wouldn't have used it. but, i figured that milk and honey are like, super moisturizers anyways so it was probs fine.
milk and honey is also a great natural asthma remedy. for realz! a mug of warm milk mixed with a tablespoon or so of honey for serious makes you feel better if you can't breathe. it doesn't sound as gross as it tastes. no wait, that was wrong. it doesn't taste as gross as it sounds. it doesn't last as long as say, a puff of an inhaler lasts. but, it does the trick for a while.
ssooooo.....hm. what was i talking about?
oh yeah. hair conditioner. i don't think i'll go out and buy some more. tonight will most likely be a couch night. just like the past two days have been. at least i'm working today. so it's not like i'm totally lazy.
well then, friends. i suppose that's all. perhaps i'll try and shoot you another update during the workday.
actually, i take that back. i'm sorry i said, "shoot you." i didn't mean to use such violent language.
alright, have a wonderful day. it's not friday yet. but, it's almost friday. so...there's that.
have a good one. i'll talk to you later :)

texas, please
**WARNING** (this may seem like a normal entry, but after finishing it, i discovered that i totally "geeked out" in the middle of it. this is your nerd alert warning.)
oh hi! i didn't see you there.
i realize i used that opening a few entries ago. whatevs. i like it. it makes me laugh kinda.
i'm listening to Pokerface right now. you should be jealous. it's like a party up in here.
umm...hi. okay. now let's start the entry.
i guess i don't really know what i'm going to talk about. i haven't done anything extravagant lately.
oh wait! yes i have. i went to JoAnn's yesterday and bought patches to patch up the holes in my favorite pair of jeans. i am so upset that they ripped. i just got them back in the fall, so they're not very old. i think it was because i wore them like, every day in Ireland. and we trekked across some rough terrain. but, not really. i don't know why they ripped. ugh, but i'm upset because they fit really well and my other pair of jeans are too big. and, i've been on the lookout for a new pair but i can't really buy jeans right now because that would cost money.
so, i'll just patch these up and hope they don't lose their character. i bought the iron on kind because i couldn't find anything else. i'm probably going to sew them on because
1. i don't have an iron
and
2. that's really the only reason
well, i might use my hair straightener. i've done that before. it worked semi-well. maybe half hair straighten, half sew. i sometimes use my hair straightener to iron things. i used it to iron my curtains before i hung them up. that's all, really. i generally don't iron.
well. now that i've told you that....
Ruby Tuesday is chasing her tail furiously around the apartment. she can run so fast it's unbelievable. and man, that tail. it can run just as fast. it's funny how much she thinks it's out to get her. we snuggled on the couch today.
i walked to the post office today in the rain. it wasn't bad. kinda nice. and it was even nicer once i got there and saw that the postal worker i have a crush on was there. and he gave me my movies! this is the ruggedly handsome one. the last time i saw him he was eating pretzels and today he was drinking coffee. i like him.
for movies today i got:
1. disc 2, season 2 of Entourage. i'm totes warming up to this. fave characters = Johnny Drama and Ari.
2. Role Models. the one with Paul Rudd and .....Sean William Scott?
3. Blind Dating. which i've watched already and will discuss NOW!
so, i watched Blind Dating this afternoon. it was a nice treat for my eyes. Chris Pine. i had seen the trailer for this on some other rom com like, last year. i can specifically remember seeing it. and i thought, "aw, that looks cute." so, i put it in my Netlix queue and then kind of forgot about it, as i often do. and then, after seeing Star Trek, was like, "holy crap who's that hottie??" turned out to be Chris Pine. naturally i thought, "hm, i wonder what else he's been in..." and saw that he was the main character in this film, Blind Dating. immediately it moved to number one. and i got it today!
about this attractive twenty-two year old blind guy who's basically looking for love while in the middle of receiving treatments for a risky eye operation.
aw, i liked it. it was pretty sweet. i just loved his parents. and his whole family and his best friend. everyone just seemed like they really got along. the relationship between him and his mother kind of reminded me of the mother-son relationship in My Left Foot. if My Left Foot was a rom com.
anyways! good movie.
AND. so, he falls in love with this really sweet Indian girl who turns out to be in the middle of an arranged engagement to another Indian man. which Indian man, you ask? umm....MOHINDER. from Heroes. YEAH. i was like, "what's he doing here?!?!" it was weird. especially weird to hear him speak without an accent.
AND THEN. so, his brother sets him up on a bunch of unsuccessful dates with all these weird girls. the first of whom, finds out he's blind and starts uncontrollably sobbing, which continues throughout the whole date. and the actress walks onscreen and i'm like, "...noooo....it can't be...." BUT IT WAS! it was CHARLIE!!!!! the waitress from Heroes!!! who i also saw last week on Entourage!!!! it's like she's following me or something. she was such a sweet girl on Heroes. until she had an unfortunate encounter with Sylar in the back room of the diner....
AND SO THEN!! i'm watching and Chris Pine meets with the doctor who will be performing the risky eye operation and it took me a while to figure out who this guy was. but it dawned on me towards the end. who was it, you ask???? um, IT WAS BOB. from Heroes!!!! Elle's father. INSANITY!!! it was like a Heroes cast reunion. i couldn't believe it.
but, it was a sweet movie. kind of mindless. but, whatev. Chris Pine is a dreamboat.
so tomorrow i'm working 8-4. yikes. ugh, i hate getting up early for work. it will be just me and one resident the entire day. i'll see if we can get out and do something fun. depending on the weather, i guess.
ohohoh!!! i made key lime pie last night. totes delish. i made it in a chocolate crust instead of a graham cracker one. good decision. perhaps i'll take pictures because it came out quite beautiful. i don't know what prompted me to make a key lime pie. i guess you could call me the piemaker. no, actually don't call me the piemaker. that title is reserved for Ned on Pushing Daisies.
oh, i miss Pushing Daisies. what a great show. did i tell you about the Heroes connection to that show!??! did i? i don't think i did.
BUT! so, i'm watching a season 1 episode of Heroes recently and notice that Ellen Greene's name is in the credits. and i'm like, "Ellen Greene....what?" she played Aunt Vivian on Pushing Daisies, and is more commonly known as Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors. the film, and on broadway, i believe.
so, i'm like, "who the heck will she play on Heroes??"
the episode begins. i think it was the episode where Issac Mendez had the unfortunate run in with Sylar in his apartment. or, "loft" as they say. so, then Sylar decides he needs to go and see his mother. and he goes to her apartment and she opens the door and i gasp, "AUNT VIVIAN!!!!" she was Sylar's mother!!!! i couldn't believe it. aw, and it's so sweet because he brings her all these snow globes from wherever he travels to. although, you know that he travels to those places to kill people. but, she doesn't know that so it's sweet.
and then he makes it snow in her apartment and it's very reminiscent of the scene in Edward Scissorhands with Winona Ryder dancing in the snow, right before she cuts her hand on Edward's hand. and in Heroes, his mother dances in the snow right before he accidentally kills her with a pair of scissors.
so, kind of the same idea. actually, a lot of the events in Heroes remind me of other things. i can't think of anything right now. except Edward Scissorhands.
i also think the numbers 6 and 9 have been reoccuring. i only just noticed it. let me tell you my findings and maybe a super Heroes fan will read and let me know if i'm just crazy or not:
- sylar's mother lived in apartment #6
- when matt parkman was doing the FBI training test, it was also apartment #6
- matt parkman's creeper father lived in apartment #9
- the comic book that Issac wrote was called 9th Wonders!
- nathan petrelli's hospital room number was 1909 (or something like that)
maybe i'll do some research on this. 6 and 9 are basically the same number so maybe it's an emphasis on either. hold on. i'll use my super power online researching skillz.
umm...so, guess what. i'm totally right! or, totally half right. apparently there is an entire Wikipedia-esque site devoted to Heroes, and there is a whole entry about the use of the number 9. YES! i notice things!!!!
that's cool. i like it when there are things like that. that's what i liked about Lost. until it got ridiculous.
OH!!! which makes me remember something else about Heroes that make me think of Lost.
(you can stop reading now if you're totes bored. i won't be offended.)
so, on Heroes there is a character named D.L. Hawkins. which always makes me think of the character on Lost, Eloise Hawkings. it would be even weirder if D.L.'s power was time travel, but it's not. it's walking through walls.
also, i laughed really hard when it was revealed that D.L. stands for Daniel Lawrence. and i thought of a certain best friend of mine.... :)
BUT ALSO, while reading the list of number 9 occurances in Heroes there is one which i will copy for you here:
The license plate on Kaito's limousine is "NCC-1701". In addition to being the registry number of the USS Enterprise on Star Trek, the digits in the number 1701 add up to 9. Also, 1701 is a multiple of 9.
so, let's go over this one. the character of Kaito is played by George Takei, who we all know as Sulu, from STAR TREK. crazy! this must have been done on purpose. same with all the other Star Trek references in the show?? i don't know.
but it's like a total segway for Zachary Quinto who we all know as THE NEW MR. SPOCK. what?! does he spell his name 'Mr. Spock' or 'Mister Spock?' i like the latter. although, it kind of makes me think that he should grab a top hat and a cane and do a little soft shoe number.
if i was interviewing Zachary, i would ask him if he turned to George Takei for any guidence/inspiration for taking on the Star Trek role. i haven't heard anybody else ask him that question yet.
WOW. this entry took a geek turn that i wasn't expecting. i apologize? maybe i'll go in and put a disclaimer at the beginning. a warning from the surgeon general.
i think that's all the nerd i have in me.
i'm gonna go finish the second season of Heroes now. i know, it feels like i JUST started. and i kind of did. it was a short season because of the writer's strike. remember that?
ok. i have to end this before i bore you to your death. and i have to get Ruby Tuesday off of the television. and i'm going to eat supper because it's almost midnight.
goodnight friends!!!! i'll update tomorrow....maybe from work!!!! get psyched!! a work update! those are always fun and exciting.
loveLOVElove,
J.
oh hi! i didn't see you there.
i realize i used that opening a few entries ago. whatevs. i like it. it makes me laugh kinda.
i'm listening to Pokerface right now. you should be jealous. it's like a party up in here.
umm...hi. okay. now let's start the entry.
i guess i don't really know what i'm going to talk about. i haven't done anything extravagant lately.

06 July 2009
but who's counting?
folks, it's been FIFTEEN weeks since i got my ear pierced!!! i just counted. wow, that's a lot of weeks.
it's been really hurting lately, so that's why i counted. and i'm still SHOCKED that it hasn't gotten infected. i just knocked on wood. it's even still hard to sleep on my left side because it hurts still. is that normal? what would happen if i took out the piercing??? would it close up? would it hurt more or less? so, for the rest of my life, is my body going to be trying to close up that hole? or will it eventually be like, "hm, okay, she's got this metal post stuck through it, let's let her have it."
i guess it hurts so much because i'm constantly playing with it. i STILL can't get over it. it's still very foreign.
anyways. i wanted to figure out how many weeks it had been for my own personal knowledge, and then i thought, "ah, what the heck, let's just share it with the world."
i am OFFICIALLY going to watch a new ep of Heroes tonight. i am ALL caught up to where i was when i left off almost two years ago.
everytime i see George Takei on Heroes i get really mad at him for not speaking at our graduation. well, not really mad. just like, "aw man, it would have been really cool if he hadn't cancelled." he would have been way cooler than Dean's Beans.
he plays Hiro's father on the show. and it's pretty funny because Hiro and his best friend Ando are like, totes huge Star Trek fans. it makes me smile.
OH OH OH!!!!! tonight i went to the grocery store and guess what i saw?!!?!? someone was buying Digestives!!!!!!!!! DIGESTIVE COOKIES!!!!!! oh, we ate sooo many Digestives in Ireland. ours were covered in chocolate and had caramel on the inside. they were pretty delish. and, i saw the woman pick up the box and i thought, "hey, you're not Joe. what are you doing??" but, she didn't notice me awkwardly staring at her, and then she left. but, i was really excited because i had kind of forgotten about Digestives until tonight.
anyways. it's 11pm. i'm going to make some supper. Ruby Tuesday had her supper. she'll get second supper later.
so, i was supposed to work tomorrow night, but then i got a call saying that i actually didn't need to work. i'm bummed about that because i wanted the hours and i also wanted to hang out with a baby. but, hopefully there will be other times.
and in even more exciting news::: Tammy and Jenn are coming to visit me this weekend!!! i'm so excited! i haven't seen them for a super long time. Jenn says that they are coming up on friday night and staying until saturday afternoonish. sounds great!! they are my oldest friends. not in age. but, in friend longevity. we built many a chalk city together as children.
that's it! i think. at least for now. how has your night been?? did you do anything fun and exciting?!! let me know, duh!!!! i always want to know what my readers are up to. and by readers, i mean friends.
take good care.

people vs. cheese
i know, it's not even 10am and i'm already awake and posting. that's because i had to get up at 6am and drive to concord, new hampshire. stay there for ten minutes. and then drive back. it didn't really feel like a lot of driving. it was 122 miles total. i think it's not as bad because i was driving the work van and not my car. everything just feels better not in my car.
so before i left this morning i packed a snack and a drink for myself. a little bag of my Star Trek cheese-its and some raspberry tea. i was sooo looking forward to enjoying them on the ride home.
and, i drove down with a resident, but drove back by myself, so i was alone now. and i got out my iPod and connected it to the radio thing. that was nice.
and i'm eating my cheese-its and just kind of thinking about them. there are two flavors in the box, Sharp Cheddar and Parmesean. they go together nicely.
so then i start thinking, 'did they make these the Star Trek flavors because they remind someone of Kirk and Spock?'
SO THEN, i spent probably a good fifteen minutes trying to decide what cheese Kirk and Spock would be, if they were Sharp Cheddar and Parmesean.
first, i immediately thought Spock would be Sharp Cheddar. because he's sharp like a tack. and Kirk has a little more flavor, a little more edge, like Parmesean.
and i had a pretty heated internal debate. i'm kidding, it wasn't heated. but, i went back and forth a few times.
but the deciding question i asked myself was this: "if Parmesean were a person, would it have pointy ears?" and i decided: Yes. yes it would have pointy ears.
and so it was finished:
Spock = Parmesean
Kirk = Sharp Cheddar
and....that has been The Most Useless Thing You Will Hear All Day. Thanks for joining! See you next time.
i guess the funny part is, i technically was being paid to think that that stuff. and to listen to Lovegame on repeat. i'd like to play the lovegame with kirk and spock. oooo that's another entry...
so, then my iPod kind of crashed. i was upset and worried. my iPod never crashes. and i immediately thought, "oh no! the summer of crashing!!!" because i forgot to factor in my ipod into everything else in my life breaking. that would be a pretty hard blow.
and then i listened to Let the Sunshine In sung by the new cast of Hair. the cd was released quite recently and i only remembered it yesterday!!! if i had more money, i would have bought the whole cd. but, i only got that one song. and i listened to it. and it was great.
and then. something extraordinary and terrifying happened.
i saw three deer.
i saw three baby deer. not one. not even two. BUT THREE. my first immediate reaction was, "WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!?!!?!" they were walking across the street.
and then. now, maybe it was the fact that i was in an, "everything is beautiful, everything is love!" mood after listening to Hair. but after thinking that first thought, my second thought was, "awwww they can't even walk that well because they are babies!"
it was true! they were stumbley looking and very tiny. the one in the back really couldn't walk fast at all because he was so little. and, i felt compassion for the deer. for the first time in my life.
so, i don't know if this is a change of heart or what. i was surprised i felt this way. deer are my number one hated animal. which is a tension point for me and Kara because deer are her number one favorite animal.
but, i felt nice after. i didn't hate the deer. maybe because they were babies. i don't know. i guess i could tell you that i'll wait and see how i feel the next time i see a deer....but, i really hope that doesn't happen.
and i came home and Ruby Tuesday was waiting for me. she runs over to the door everytime i come home. and she starts crying and rolls over onto her back and stretches out on the floor. and then she always runs right to her food dish looking for more food. no matter what time it is. no matter when she has eaten last. she always wants more food.
her food schedule is as follows:
- half a packet of wet food around noontime
- half a packet of wet food between 5 - 7pm
- half a packet of wet food between 2 - 3am
but like, last night. i fed her at 7:30. by 9:30 her food bowl was licked completely clean and she was crying and crying for more. and she managed to open the cabinet where i keep her food and she climbed in. she's a smart one.
she's taking a nap right now. which i am going to go very shortly. i thought i could finish season one of heroes last night, but it got to be 2:30am and i was too tired. so, i have ONE MORE episode of season 1 and then i'm done!!! then i can start where i left off almost two years ago.
i just read the Claire Bennet will have a lesbian scene in the upcoming season. what?
so, i will finish season one tonight. start season two. and watch more of season two!!!! i'm excited and nervous!!
i hope you all have a lovely monday. it's blue skies here and i hope it is where you are too. wherever you may be. where are you?
i fashion my future on films in space,
.Jacuzzi.Jacuzzi.
so before i left this morning i packed a snack and a drink for myself. a little bag of my Star Trek cheese-its and some raspberry tea. i was sooo looking forward to enjoying them on the ride home.

first, i immediately thought Spock would be Sharp Cheddar. because he's sharp like a tack. and Kirk has a little more flavor, a little more edge, like Parmesean.
and i had a pretty heated internal debate. i'm kidding, it wasn't heated. but, i went back and forth a few times.
but the deciding question i asked myself was this: "if Parmesean were a person, would it have pointy ears?" and i decided: Yes. yes it would have pointy ears.
and so it was finished:
Spock = Parmesean
Kirk = Sharp Cheddar
and....that has been The Most Useless Thing You Will Hear All Day.
- half a packet of wet food between 2 - 3am
but like, last night. i fed her at 7:30. by 9:30 her food bowl was licked completely clean and she was crying and crying for more. and she managed to open the cabinet where i keep her food and she climbed in. she's a smart one.
she's taking a nap right now. which i am going to go very shortly. i thought i could finish season one of heroes last night, but it got to be 2:30am and i was too tired. so, i have ONE MORE episode of season 1 and then i'm done!!! then i can start where i left off almost two years ago.
i just read the Claire Bennet will have a lesbian scene in the upcoming season. what?
so, i will finish season one tonight. start season two. and watch more of season two!!!! i'm excited and nervous!!
i hope you all have a lovely monday. it's blue skies here and i hope it is where you are too. wherever you may be. where are you?
i fashion my future on films in space,

the lovegame
that song by Lady Gaga? i'm totes into it right now. although, it has some pretty explicit innuendo.
anyways. i just finished watching The Wrestler. i had been putting off watching it because i was nervous about all the violence. so, i decided to watch it during the day.
MAN. what a film. great, great film. it was just like, really good. Mickey Rourke was awesome. the first probably....half hour or so was pretty violent. one part in particular. but even through that, it was still so good.
and, i don't know if you remember this, but i kept thinking back to my writing seminar that i took last year and the kid in my class wrote about that wrestler who killed his wife and son and then committed suicide. and he pretty much couldn't function anymore because his body and his brain was so damaged from the sport. sport? job? game? what is wrestling anyways? but, that story really affected me during the class, i remember. it's just all so incredible to me that people put themselves through this.
and i was thinking this through the whole movie. like, "why the heck is he putting himself through this??" and then at the end of the movie, there was one line that completely explained the entire thing. like, the entire film summed up in one line.
so, he's about to go into the ring after not wrestling for a while. his life is kind of falling apart. and someone is trying to convince him not to wrestle, not to go back in. and he says to her,
"ya know, the only place i get hurt is out there."
oh, such a great line. he means, not in the ring. it really put the whole movie into perspective. wow. great movie. great job, Darren Aronofsky. he's married to Rachel Weisz.
i'm kind of perplexed as to why Sean Penn won. i guess i have to see Milk again. i just remember not being that impressed with it. but, i won't get into the whole "brad" thing again. and the whole "leo" thing again. i'll wait until next awards season.
YEAH: see The Wrestler. i only had to close my eyes once.
oh, and i was so in love with Mickey Rourke's long blonde hair. oooo yes please. he was in the movie Spun with Jason Schwartzman and i was listening to that soundtrack the other day. and then i watched a clip on youtube of my favorite part. i named my blog after that clip. little known fact. that's a great movie. Spun. drug movie. meth users. Jason Schwartzman is awesome. and the soundtrack is top notch.
speaking of J.Schwartzman, has everyone seen his hilarious video for 'Microphone?' off of the new Coconut Records CD, Davy. great cd. better than the first. i just love him. he's probably one of those guys who if he asked me to marry him, i would just do it. no matter what.
- Jason Schwartzman
- Leo DiCaprio
- maybe Ewan McGregor
they come and they go, but some always remain.
anyways. yesterday when i was at Shaw's, there was this super cutie there. like, another shopper. he was wearing a red t-shirt, which made me extrememly happy because it was in spirit of the fourth of july. and, since i was wearing blue and white, we would have gone together pretty darn well.
i first saw him in the pet food aisle. he kind of stared at me for a long time. and then i went to get some whole wheat multi-grain bread. i saw him again in a different aisle. then again while i was checking out. i thought he was going to come in line behind me, but he chose a different cashier. i was really hoping he wouldn't notice that i bought Star Trek cheese-itz. i mean, what? no i didn't. who does that? definitely not me.
and then i walked out of the store a head of him. but he followed shortly after. and he got into a car with a tiny little dog. it was a semi-cute scene. whatever. he was a cutie. and then we drove away together. he went north to vermont, where his license plate was from. and i went to walgreen's to buy allergy medicine.
but, i think i made a smart decision about the allergy medicine even though i was still excited about the shaw's cutie.
so, i was standing there in the allergy aisle. an aisle i know so well. and i'm about to spend almost $25 on a 12 day supply of pills and a 30 day supply of eye drops.
and i'm thinking to myself. actually, i might have been thinking outloud, i can't really remember. but i hadn't been taking any allergy medicine for a couple days because i had run out and didn't want to leave the house (meaning, couch) to go get some. and i hadn't really been feeling any worse. meaning that the allergy medicine really wasn't doing anything to make me feel better.
so, i made the decision not to get any more allergy medicine. if it's not making me feel better and just keeping me from sleeping, then WHY would i continue to take it?? i'll wait until i can get a super medicine from the doctor which i have yet to find.
but, i did get the eye drops. those are crucial. i tried going without those for a few days and MAN.
so, i woke up saturday morning and could barely open my right eye. it felt like someone had punched me and it was all bruised. oh, it really, really hurt. and then as i was trying to remember if i had gotten into a "captain kirk" fight the previous night, i semi-remembered waking up in the middle of the night and furiously rubbing my eye because it itched/hurt so bad. so then i was worried that maybe i rubbed it hard enough to bruise it. so, i went to the mirror and no, it was not bruised. but, it still hurt. but, i eventually got it opened.
so, i decided that the $11 bottle of eye drops was, in fact, working MUCH MUCH better than the $4 bottle and it was definitely worth having. so, i purchased. it's cool because they're 12 hour drops, so you only put them in twice a day. and they really, really help. it's the generic Zaditor, or something. it makes me think of the fortune teller machine in Big. i guess they both work magic.
Ruby Tuesday is sleeping on one of Aliya's rocks right now and it's extremely cute. i took a bunch of pictures of her with my phone. um, because my phone has a camera. did you know that? like, one that can take pictures. unreal. i can't get over it. it can also take video and record sound. what?! wait a minute!
now i'm going to walk to the library and return a book. last night i was talking to the resident we have here and she was telling me that she was really dreading the staff who was working today and didn't want to be with her, etc, etc. so, i said that i needed to walk to the library and return a book and i asked if she would want to come with me. she said yes and i think she was happy i asked.
and then tomorrow, i'm leaving at 6:30 AM to drive one of the girls to Concord to the bus terminal. she's leaving. it's an early day, but i can come back and take a nap. and it's free gas and it's basically just driving. i'll wait with her to make sure she gets off safely, though. i'll be sad.
oookkk. i should get going. um, what? it's 5pm?? when did that happen? that movie was only 1.75 hours but it took me like, 3 to watch it? what? that doesn't make sense. it must be that time warp that was in the living room the other day.
anyways, have a great rest of the weekend. i'm thinking about you. and just know that i really enjoy these talks. i look forward to them, as i hope you do.
best!
